On October 7, 2016, Jamie H. Baglio obtained a defense verdict on behalf of her client, Anco Insulations, Inc. (“Anco”). The verdict marked the conclusion of a 10-day trial involving a plaintiff who alleged occupational exposure to asbestos and had been diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma.

The plaintiff alleged that he was exposed to asbestos while working at several industrial facilities throughout his career. He further alleged that Anco was an insulation contractor at one of their facilities and that Anco’s work activities exposed him to asbestos.

Ms. Baglio successfully argued that the work performed by Anco took place after asbestos-containing insulation products were no longer in use and, thus, Anco’s work could not have exposed the plaintiff to asbestos.

The matter was tried before a 12-person jury.  After deliberating for approximately two hours, the jury returned a defense verdict of zero in favor of Anco. However, the jury did find twelve other parties liable for plaintiff’s injuries.  The jury’s verdict against those parties was $12 million.
