Following a three (3) week trial in Civil District Court of Orleans Parish, the jury returned a verdict in favor of our client, the alleged successor in interest to a local asbestos pipe supplier. Thomas Handy alleged that he contracted lung cancer as a result of exposures related to the cutting of asbestos cement pipe as a water utilities contractor for many years. The jury deliberated for a couple of hours before returning a defense verdict, finding that the client was not at fault in causing Mr. Handy’s cancer, and that the products sold by the predecessor company were not a substantial contributing cause of his disease.
